Create Rules and Alerts That Actually Work

An alert that is too broad warns of nothing: it drowns the important in the whole. The art of the rule is precision.

Start from a precise need

A good rule answers a clear question: "tell me when a competitor lowers its prices". Vague in, noise out.

Combine inclusion and exclusion

The best rules combine keywords to follow and terms to exclude. Exclusion often makes the difference between a useful alert and a saturated one.

Test and refine

A rule gets tuned. Watch what it catches for a few days, then tighten or widen. Perfect rules on the first try are rare.

Name clearly

A well-named rule is understood at a glance in the list. A detail that matters when you have dozens.

A few precise rules beat many vague ones.
